It Begins With Words

On Friday night November 2, 2018, synagogues across America and around the world welcomed neighbors and friends to participate in #ShowUpForShabbat — a response to the horrific attack at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh. The attack happened the previous Shabbat, when eleven lives were cut short by the violence directed at them simply because they were Jews. Here at Temple Isaiah, our neighbors and friends (including many in the interfaith community), showed up in a beautiful demonstration of love and solidarity. More than 200 individuals joined together for worship and music, and Rabbi Axler delivered the sermon shown here in video. The conclusion of the sermon is a video expression of love that was sent to our congregation by one of our interfaith partners, Oaklands Presbyterian Church in Laurel, Maryland.  It is well worth watching to be reminded of the power of words to dispel darkness.
