Temple Isaiah is Hiring!

Youth and Engagement Coordinator
A CLASP Fellowship Position

About Temple Isaiah:
Temple Isaiah is a vibrant, inclusive Reform congregation in Central Maryland that enriches Jewish life through its commitment to the values of sacred community, spirituality, lifelong learning, and social action. Temple Isaiah is a growing congregation of approximately 770 member families, a vibrant preschool and a religious school (Kulanu) with over 400 students. We are seeking a full-time informal educator to join our team, to build strong relationships with and among students and families and support our dynamic programming.

Position Overview:
This position is part of the URJ’s CLASP Fellowship, and in partnership with URJ Camp Harlam. Our educator will spend 10 months a year working full-time at Temple Isaiah and two months a year in residence at Camp Harlam in a leadership position. CLASP fellows receive additional support and training from their camp supervisor and fellowship cohort throughout the year.

The Youth and Engagement Coordinator works under the supervision of the Director of Lifelong Learning, and will have a hand in running meaningful, relationship-centered programming for individuals of all ages.

Main areas of focus:

  • (20%) Run Junior Youth Groups: plan and execute monthly(ish) events for JYTI (5th and 6th Graders), bimonthly events for Club 34 (3rd and 4th Grade) and experiment with programming for K–2 students/families
  • (15%) Coordinate schedule/registration for B’nei Mitzvah Shabbatons (4th, 5th, and 6th Grades) and teen trips/Shabbatons, staffing them as appropriate
  • (10%) Organize engagement programming for families with young children (such as Babies & Bagels, Tot Shabbat, Hands on Hanukkah) — managing schedule, publicity, supplies, and coordinating with educators/clergy for programming
  • (10%) Teach in Next Dor (high school elective-based program), and support teen engagement work
  • (20%) Take on a significant role with Kulanu — this will likely look like taking on a major role in our K–2 program and special events, but we’re open to specifics being flexible based on areas of skill/interest
  • (25%) General Member engagement — under the guidance of our Executive Director and the Director of Lifelong Learning, support work to deepen the relationships of our members with one another and with the congregation.

Core Competencies/Requirements:

  • Degree in Education, Jewish Studies, or a related field (desired)
  • Experience working with youth, preferably in a school, congregation, and/or camp setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Ability to create and implement meaningful learning environments and spaces of belonging
  • Growth mindset, creative thinking, and collaborative spirit
  • Strong work ethic, time management, and organizational skills
  • Commitment to the ideals of Reform Judaism including Diversity, Equity, and Inclusive Education
  • Available for flexible scheduling including evenings, weekends, and Jewish holidays

Work Hours:

Tuesday–Friday office hours (9am–5pm on T/W/Th, 9am–3pm on Fridays), Sundays when Kulanu is in session, additional evening/weekend hours as needed for programming (with comp time given when appropriate).

During the summer, live in-residence at Camp Harlam in Kunkletown, PA.

Salary and Benefits

  • $55,000
  • Medical and dental insurance
  • Vacation and sick leave, parental leave
  • Retirement plans available through the Reform Pension Board
  • Professional development/conference (the ARJE conference, or another conference organized for the CLASP Fellows) and ARJE dues allowance
