The last week of June, Temple Isaiah hosted Girl Scout Howard County Day Camp (GSHCDC). This all volunteer-run camp has served girls in Howard County for almost 50 years, but lost its home when the Girl Scouts of Central MD sold Camp Ilchester. This is the second year running at TI. Although the camp is open to all Girl Scouts, several TI members and Kulanu alumni are on staff and some current Kulanu students attend.
The campers sang, danced, cooked over fire, made crafts, practiced archery, stamped leather bracelets, and played water games on TI’s beautiful grounds. More than 140 campers (and a few brothers), 41 teen counselors (PAs) and over 50 adult staff had a fantastic week! This year’s theme was Renaissance, so there was also a RennFest for the whole camp — complete with jousting(!), a hand-made printing press, an art show with famous pieces of the time (and some “forgeries” with our raccoon mascot, Heidi). Twenty-five girls graduated the PA training program, ready to be PAs next year and ten girls Bridged to Adult in the Temple’s Rose Garden, hopefully to come back as adult staff next year!
