Torah Reading: Genesis 12:1–17:27
“God said to Abram, ‘Go forth from your native land and from your father’s house to the land that I will show you.'”
— Genesis 12:1
Abram, called by God to depart from his home in Haran, begins his journey to the land of Canaan with these words. There is no recording on the Torah of Abram wanting to stay in Haran, asking God to let him be the first of this new people where he was. Abram simply got up, Sarai by his side, and left to start a new journey. So it is with us, we are called to new journeys, new adventures in our lives that we were never expecting. Whether by our own choice or forced upon us, a journey represents an opportunity along with challenges. When we embrace the journey, the challenges can be overcome and the opportunity is without limit, just as it was for Abram and Sarai.
