Parshat: Eikev
Deuteronomy 7:12-11:25
Remember the long way that your God יהוה has made you travel in the wilderness these past forty years… The clothes upon you did not wear out, nor did your feet swell these forty years.
~Deuteronomy 8:1,4
Among the many miracles that the Israelites experienced in the wilderness, their clothes never needed replacing! Rashi (Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki, 11th century France) explains the miraculous phenomenon this way: “the clouds of Divine Glory used to rub the dirt off their clothes and bleach them so that they looked like new white articles, and also, their children, as they grew, their clothes grew with them, just like the clothes (shell) of a snail which grows with it.”
